RailTel Corporation of India Ltd. has officially announced the acquisition of a significant domestic work order from the Directorate of Higher Education, Himachal Pradesh. This contract involves the creation of a specialized digital management system designed for educational governance within the state. The project, detailed in a regulatory filing dated April 28, 2026, marks a continued expansion of the company’s digital transformation services beyond its traditional railway infrastructure roots.
The contract is valued at approximately Rs. 20.35 Crore (inclusive of taxes) and was officially received via a Letter of Acceptance on April 27, 2026. Under the terms of this domestic agreement, RailTel will establish a MIS-Central Dashboard System for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Himachal Pradesh. This system is intended to provide real-time data analytics, improve transparency in academic administration, and support data-driven decision-making for the state’s education department. The project features a long-term execution and maintenance timeline, with a targeted completion date of April 27, 2031.
RailTel Corporation of India is a “Navratna” Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Railways, recognized as a major neutral telecom infrastructure provider. Beyond its core mission of modernizing the communication and signaling systems for Indian Railways, the company has increasingly partnered with state governments for smart governance and cloud infrastructure projects. In late 2025 and early 2026, RailTel has been highly active, securing a Rs. 444.44 Crore contract for KSWAN 3.0 and a Rs. 309.28 Crore project from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited for integrated tunnel communication. While the company recently faced a minor setback with the cancellation of a Rs. 17.13 Crore order from Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, its overall portfolio continues to grow with high-value domestic contracts from entities like the Uttar Pradesh Police and Eastern Coalfields Limited.
For the quarter ended December 31, 2025, RailTel reported a robust revenue of Rs. 913 Crore, representing a 19% YoY growth compared to Rs. 768 Crore in the corresponding quarter of 2024. However, the company experienced a slight decline in bottom-line performance, with net profit falling 4.1% YoY to Rs. 62.4 Crore. On a Quarter-on-Quarter (QoQ) basis, revenue and profit showed moderate fluctuations as the company managed higher operational costs, resulting in an EBITDA margin contraction to 14.6%. The company’s shareholding pattern as of late 2025 indicates that the President of India (Promoter) holds a 72.84% stake, while institutional investment is led by the Motilal Oswal Nifty 500 Index Fund.
