In a recent regulatory filing, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) announced the outcome of its Board meeting held on January 25, 2026. The Board of Directors has approved the promotion and appointment of 12 senior-level officials to the position of Executive Director (ED), effective immediately from January 25, 2026. These officials represent the Senior Management Personnel tier, positioned just one level below the Board of Directors, reflecting a strategic strengthening of the company’s core leadership.

The newly appointed Executive Directors include seasoned veterans such as Shri Arindam Chakraborty, Shri P.S. Das, and Shri V.K. Singh, among others. These leaders bring extensive experience across diverse domains including Field Quality & Assurance (FQA), HVDC project management, and regional infrastructure development. For instance, Shri Arindam Chakraborty (ED-FQA) possesses over 33 years of experience in grid management and technical quality assurance, while Shri P.S. Das is currently managing the critical Khavda-Nagpur HVDC Project. This elevation is expected to bolster POWERGRID’s project execution and operational excellence across its multi-regional network.

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, a Maharatna CPSU under the Ministry of Power, is India’s largest electric power transmission utility. As of early 2026, the company continues to expand its footprint, recently commissioning a massive Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) in Rajasthan to evacuate 8.1 GW of solar power. In late 2025, POWERGRID was also declared the successful bidder for an inter-regional strengthening project between the Southern and Eastern regions, involving 765kV transmission lines across Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. Furthermore, the company is undergoing a major internal restructuring, with plans approved in December 2025 to amalgamate 13 wholly-owned subsidiaries into two larger entities to streamline operations.

For the last reported quarterly financial results (Q2 FY2025-26), POWERGRID’s revenue from operations stood at ₹11,475.95 Crores, marking a growth of 1.76% compared to the ₹11,277.76 Crores recorded in the same quarter of the previous year. However, the consolidated Net Profit for the quarter saw a year-on-year decline of 5.98%, falling to ₹3,566.08 Crores from ₹3,793.02 Crores. The company maintains a strong investor base, with the President of India holding a majority 51.34% stake.
